The sectional garage door does not need to swing outwards to open but can open by pulling upwards, and this is a major advantage over the typical up and over doors. The whole door is split horizontally into four panels and these operate in vertical tracks that curve at the top into horizontal tracks to follow the garage roofline. The sectional garage door can be made of steel, wood and other materials, and also possess a very wonderful design which allows the door to take up much less space. Roller garage doors

If you have space problem or your driveway is short and narrow, then the best choice of door you could consider is the roller garage door. Roller garage doors are manufactured either in steel or aluminum strips, and these strips are fairly narrow so they can roll up into the drum that is inside the garage. A roller door has no out swing, overhang or reduction in width and it simply rolls up around a drum above the opening. Roller garage doors are widely known for their good security and protection against the weather. The operation of these doors are usually controlled by the remote control, meaning you need not step-out of your car before opening your garage and this is an advantage especially during winter. The installation of these doors is easy to carry out but two people may be required to lift the curtain onto the support brackets in the ceiling of the garage.

Up and Over Garage Doors

Just as the name implies, this type of garage doors first swing towards the driveway and then move up. In order to swing freely, up and down garage doors require lots of space both at the ground level and at the top level. As a result of this, they are only suitable for garages with long driveways and not short driveways. There are basically two types of up and over garage doors which are Retractable garage door, and Canopy garage door. A retractable garage door has horizontal tracks that extend back into the garage and this type of door is suitable for both electric and manual operation while Canopy garage door gives the maximum drive-through width when open and is the easiest to install. The canopy garage door is balanced and assisted by torsion springs which are positioned above the door panel on the head of the fixing frame and it is suitable only for manual operation.

Swing Hung Garage Doors

If you’re looking for a garage door with a traditional look, then swing hung garage door is the answer to your quest. These type of doors open like a normal door, and are hung in two parts on each side of the frame, opening left and right. They are available in steel or wood and can be operated either manually or automatically. Swing hung doors require space in front of the garage so as to be able to open the door easily. Hence, are not recommended for short or narrow driveways.
